High School Scholarship Program FAQ's

When was the High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) started?
The HSSP was started in 1918 by a group of citizens who were concerned about the high drop out rate among students who attend Cincinnati Public Schools. The goal was to encourage students to stay in school by providing a monthly stipend.

How can my child become part of this program?
Contact the designated representative at your child’s school. They can provide an application. Fill out the application completely and return it to the Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation. After careful review of the application your child will be invited to an interview at our office. Once an interview is completed and the student is accepted the student must attend an orientation meeting.

Can I get an application online or at the CSF office?
No. Applications are only available from the representative at your child’s school. The CSF representatives provide applications to students they recommend for the program. Please contact your child’s representative for an application.

How will this program help my child get in to college?
The HSSP provides college access workshops and information to help students learn about college, the application process and financial aid. The HSSP also provides campus tours and one-on one advising about academic and college concerns.

My child is struggling with some classes. Does the HSSP provide academic support? The HSSP provides tutoring for program participants who are struggling in school. Tutoring is provided at our office during after school hours by qualified college students. The HSSP can also provide assistance with study skills, organization, time management and other concerns.

My child attends a charter school. Can they participate in the program?
