Independent Student Minimize
You must meet one or more of the following criteria to be a student of independent status:
  • You were born before January 1, 1985.
  • You're married.
  • You're enrolled in a master's or doctorate program during the 2007-2008 school year.
  • You have children who receive more than half their support from you.
  • You have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you, who receive more than half their support from you now, and who will continue to receive more than half their support from you through June 30, 2009.
  • You're an orphan or a ward of the court.
  • You're a veteran of the US ARmed Forces.
