High School Students and Johnny Bench Honored at Annual Dinner

Cincinnati, OH May 16, 2011 The Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation (CSF) hosted an Annual Student Awards Dinner for outstanding high school students participating in the CSF High School Scholarship Program on May 9. Two hundred students, families and supporters attended the event at Xavier University’s Schiff Family Conference Center at the Cintas Center.

The CSF holds this annual event to celebrate the achievements of students enrolled and excelling in Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS). Students were honored based on GPA, school citizenship and participation in CSF’s High School Scholarship Program. One student from each school, in grades 7-11, was chosen as the Most Outstanding Student, while one senior from each high school was chosen as the Most Outstanding Senior. The awards were presented by Mr. Courtis Fuller of Channel 5.

“Every awards dinner celebrates a period of transition from one challenge to the next,” says Kristen Merica, CSF High School Program Coordinator. “We’re so proud of our students and we want to support them as they move through the program. For our seniors, we want to help them shift from the High School Scholarship Program to our College Scholarship Program. We want to help them obtain scholarships and to adapt to college life successfully.”

One final award was given to Mr. Johnny Bench, a former Cincinnati Reds player and Baseball Hall of Fame member. Bench was awarded with CSF’s 5th Annual Champion of Educational Opportunity (CEO) Award.  He was honored for his leadership and vision to Ohio education as a CSF scholarship fund starter.
